All sectors, require significantly different and often specialist skill sets, which require training and skill development. This skill gap needs to be addressed through comprehensive efforts, at various levels and catering to different needs of the society and industry.
In order to address these skill development efforts, need to be managed in a focused and coordinated manner. Currently, skill development efforts are spread across approximately 20 separate ministries, 35 State Governments and Union Territories and the private sector. With this as a primary objective, the Office of the Advisor to the Prime Minister on PM’s National Council on Skill Development has been set up with the mandate to:
Develop a strategy for skill development at the national level
Map the gaps in the area of skill development and strategize to address the skill deficit.
Identify new areas for employability and promote skill development in such sectors.
Advise on remodeling of existing skill development programmes run by all ministries.
Promote greater use of Communications Technology in the area of skill development.
Develop and implement an action plan for skill development to maximize job generation within the country and create human resources for global needs.
Provide guidance through the Prime Minister’s National Council on Skill Development for activities to be undertaken by the Centre and the States and by the National Skill Development Corporation.
Rural areas contribute significantly to employment and economic growth in many countries in general and India has tremendous opportunities in this space. The objective is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing better livelihood.Skills development is the process of identifying once skill gaps, and developing and honing these skills. It is important because ones skills determine ones ability to execute his/her plans with success.
It targets skill development of “People with Disabilities”as per industry requirements. PwD skill development projects focus on training and placement of differently-abled persons.
Vocational skills are skills you gain toward becoming knowledgeable in a specific trade or profession. Vocational skills are practical or first-hand skills that help a person master a trade or a job. These skills may be obtained on the job or at a vocational school. A vocational school provides technical education to prepare people for work in a trade, craft, or profession.
Academia and industry share a symbiotic relationship. Academia produces graduates who are absorbed by industry. Research work in universities are taken up by the industry and turned into products and service.Skills are necessary to complete tasks (mental or physical). Development training helps individual to acquire and enhance those skills and become suitably and effectively employable.
